Trump Defeats the NFL on the Political Playing Field 10/12/17 - A Whittle Bit of Commentary

A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle

Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell threw up a hail mary on Tuesday in hopes of stopping the bad press and declining ratings from the national anthem protests by sending a letter to teams and players stating that the NFL feels that all players should stand for the national anthem.

So touchdown Donald Trump.

Trump has won. He’s getting exactly what he wants. He looks like the hero and the defender of the flag, the national anthem and patriotism, and he’s made the NFL look un-American and when your customer base is made up mostly of people that are flag waving middle class, everyday Americans, looking un-American and unpatriotic isn’t a good look.

Trump tweeting out about the NFL’s tax breaks probably helped in making Roger Goddell back off and send out that letter.

So now that Trump has won and looks like Uncle Sam, he’ll tweet out a tweet congratulating the NFL on doing the right thing and he’ll let his followers know that it’s ok to watch football again because the NFL has done the right thing.

Former USFL owner Trump might’ve not been able to defeat the NFL in business, but he has defeated them in politics and that’s probably a bigger impact than the New Jersey Generals ever would’ve had on the culture.
