Is the NFL Even Worth Watching This Season Due to Politics? 9/8/17 - A Whittle Bit of Commentary

A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle

Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):

We had the opening game of the 2017 NFL season last night and Sunday we’ve got the rest of the games, and I am seriously wondering if it’s even worth taking the time to watch the games this season because politics are probably gonna ruin it for me.

During the pre-season some players picked up where Colin Kaepernick left off last season protesting the flag and now you’ve got police up on Cleveland planning to protest the protest by not holding a flag during a pregame ceremony, and worst of all, the media will hype the anti-flag protests up for possible ratings and the announcers will offer their political opinions on it as well, which may mean very little actual sports talk about the actual game.

It’s all a turn off and if the NFL lets this keep up, the ratings and interest for fans are gonna go way down this season and seasons to come.

Please no politics from either side. Just score touchdowns.

Bad News: Religious Followers are Becoming a Minority as the Secular Society Becomes the Majority 9/7/17 - A Whittle Bit of Commentary

A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle

Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):

The UK National Centre for Social Research in a survey of 2,942 adults found that 53% of those polled said they have no religion and among those 18 to 25, 71% said they have no religion. Among those 75 and up, 75% of them were religious and those that were born into a religious household, four in 10 are no longer religious. Here in America, AP reports on a poll conducted by the Public Religion Research Institute that showed that the number of whites that identify as Christian is only 43% now.

These recent trends should not surprise anyone as we have seen our culture become more secular and religious practice decline as the society has grown more secular. This is a disturbing trend though, especially for millennials that so many are turning away from faith because this will only cause more problems and greater conflict in our society as people move further from the light, the greater that darkness will grow and as a culture we are going to become more self-centered, more heartless, more immoral, and we are gonna have more problems than we could ever imagine because if we don’t have a moral, religious foundation of principles in which we live, then anythingwill be ok.

Actually I believe the anything goes culture is already here and look at how many problems and broken lives and families we already have. If this trend continues, imagine how bad society will be in ten years.

Taylor Swift Doesn't Owe the Political Liberal Left (Or Right) Anything 9/6/17 - A Whittle Bit of Commentary

A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle

Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):

Well, looks like it’s up to me to defend Taylor Swift’s reputation and honor.

The liberal left is upset at the “Look What You Made Me Do” singer because unlike almost every other pop star in the world, she hasn’t gone political. She hasn’t been open about her politics. She hasn’t used her platform to be a political activist for leftist causes. And to the left, this is a problem.

Some on the left are so obsessed with trying to figure out who she voted for in the 2016 election and they are worried that her lack of public politics means she committed the unforgiveable sin of voting for The Donald.

This is all ridiculous. Taylor Swift doesn’t owe the left anything. She isn’t required to use her pop career to be a political activist to push liberal politics, neither is she required to promote conservative politics publicly if she is a conservative.

Taylor not speaking out on politics and just playing songs is one reason she is as popular as she is because people are tired of hearing musician’s political opinions. Nobody cares what Katy Perry’s opinion is. Just play music.

Taylor Swift is a brand and she’s smart enough to know that taking a political stance will alienate half of her audience one way or the other and she knows that Republicans download music. Democrats buy CDs, and giving her political opinion will only cause one side to not like her, and she wants that money. Makes sense to me.

And maybe she’s just isn’t that into politics, which is ok too.

But just to troll the left though, I wish on her new album she would have the lyrics:

“You said you wanted to make this relationship great again,

Like Trump said he w ants to make America, but you lied.”

If she said that I would die! I would die of laughing! That would be trolling on the expert level!

I’m Chad Whittle and look what you leftist made me do, you’ve made me have to defend T-Swizzle on A Whittle Bit of Commentary.

Mean Girls: Women Saying Yes to Unattractive Dates on Dating Apps Just for the Free Food 9/5/17 - A Whittle Bit of Commentary

A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle

Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):

Guys, she’s just not that into you. The New York Post reports that broke millennial women are breaking men’s hearts all over NYC and I’m sure other cities too, by using some love stuck dude just to score a free meal.

The post calls these women foodies, and they’re saying yes to guys on dating apps so they can go out for a nice, expensive meal because they are broke due to high rent in the big apple. So instead of sitting at home on a Friday night eating rice and beans, they’re swiping right to guys.

Some women interviewed said they’ve gone to places where dinner could cost upwards of sixty dollars. They have zero attraction to the guys. Don’t care about them at all, they’re just there for the steak.

Where are the feminists when you need them? I bet they’d be willing to pay for their own meal over a guy paying for it. So remember guys, next time that twenty something blonde with model good looks swipes right. She may be hoping you’ll swipe the check from the table to pay so she can score a free meal, leaving you heartbroken and broke. Tell her for date one you want to meet her at the park and she if she says yes. If isn’t up for it. then just keep listening to Chad Whittle on A Whittle Bit of Commentary instead.

Basic Cable Content is Becoming More Coarse and HBO Like Adult Themed 9/4/17 - A Whittle Bit of Commentary

A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle

Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):

I really like USA Network, and no they’re not paying me to say that, but I wish they would. One thing I’ve notice though is lately the language on USA, and other basic cable channels as well, is getting worse.

My all-time favorite USA show is Burn Notice which went off air in 2013. Suits and Shooter are my favorites right now, and while both shows are good, I’ve notice that the language has gotten worse, especially considering I’ve been watching Suits over the years and I’ve notice that in the current season, they’re editing out the second half of Mother---er, but the way it’s edited, it sounds like they’re saying it anyways, but that never happened on Burn Notice. The worst language on it was maybe God’s name in vein once or twice, but on the current shows, the language is all over the alphabet.

The fact that basic cable feels they can get away with having this coarse language shows how our standards have gone down, and have gone down pretty quickly if Burn Notice ended in 2013 and now in 2017 basic cable is looking more like HBO, the content will only grow more adult as channels push the envelope more, and it seems that Americans are ok with it as no one complains about our declining moral standards, and it says a lot about our culture over all as our entire culture is becoming more coarse.

Facebook to Start Blocking Fake News Pages from Advertising on the Social Site 9/1/17 - A Whittle Bit of Commentary

A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle

Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):

Bad news for the fake news media and the clickbait websites. Starting Monday Facebook will block pages that share a lot of fake news from advertising at all on the social site. In a blog post Facebook said that pages that repeatedly share fake news will be blocked from advertising if the stories are flagged by a third party fact-checker, but the ban can be lifted if the page stops sharing fake news.

My question is who are these third party fact-checkers? Can they be trusted? Do they have a political bias? Or are they fake fact-checkers that only care about allowing stories that fit their politics? What if a major news website publishes a story they don’t like? Will they flag it as fake news, just because they don’t like the website’s political slant?

My guess is that a lot of publishers that aren’t fake news will probably be flagged, so hopefully they will have an appeal process that will allow those pages to still advertise.

This story is a little concerning to me because it shows how much power Facebook has about what we see and don’t see and that should be something everyone is concerned about. When you have a website that has a billion users, that gives them a lot of power and influence that must be kept in check and we must hold them responsible that they aren’t blocking legit stories just because it doesn’t fit their political agenda.

Unlike an iPhone Screen, the Future is Not Bright If Internet Addiction Continues 8/31/17 - A Whittle Bit of Commentary

A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle

Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):

Well recently I discussed smartphone addiction and now there is a story about internet addiction that is sweeping the nation. Of course, the two are connected. CNBC reports that a study on internet addiction by The National Institutes of Health will kick off this week to try and determine the best form of treatment for internet addiction, focusing on online gaming. The ultimate goal for the study is to determine if online gaming/internet addiction should be listed as a mental health disorder in the United States.

There is no doubt that people are addicted to the internet and it’s not just gaming. Some are addicted to porn, others social media, and the list could go on and on. And there is no doubt that eventually this will be added to the list of addictions that insurance will have to cover, which once again will make costs go up, but this is only gonna grow and in the future we’re gonna have even more addictions as tech grows, causing more mental health issues and causing more harm to our society and culture as Americans sit all day in front of the computer becoming lazy, overweight, and losing focus of what’s really important in life which is family, friends and faith. Before it’s over we’re gonna have an entire generation that doesn’t know how to even have a conversation with others unless it’s via a screen and that is really gonna cause problems. Unlike the iPhone scre en, the future is not bright if this keeps up.

The Spirit of America is Alive and Well in Houston 8/30/17 - A Whittle Bit of Commentary

A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle

Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):

The damage by Hurricane Harvey is unbelievable and seeing the destruction it has caused to Houston is sad to watch. So many families now are without a home, and some have lost their life in this tragic event.

While we all morn for those that have lost their lives, this hurricane has done one important thing at a time that America really needed it and that is that the aftermath of Harvey has shown that the American spirit is still alive and well, even in this hyper political climate where every day it seems that there is a new group against each other because politics. In Houston, people have put aside their differences and are doing what Americans always do in tough times and that is help each other out.

I’ve seen so many photos of people helping each other out: white, black, gay, straight, Republican or democrat, right now in Houston, none of that matters, because everyone there are just Americans. It’s a reminder that once again, that when the rubber hits the road, when it really matters, when times are tough, Americans come together and the spirit of America is still alive and well in Houston. God bless them and keep them safe.

Rock on USA: We Are So Blessed with American Abundance 8/29/17 - A Whittle Bit of Commentary

A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle

Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):

I’m a big music fan, mostly alt rock and indie rock, but I have a Whittle 90s pop and Christian music in the mix as well. Anyways, while driving down the road, I couldn’t decide what music to listen to.

Should I listen to SiriusXM?
Play a CD?

Plug my iPhone in and stream Spotify? Or Apple Music? Or Pandora?

Then it hit me.

Like a Taylor Swift superfan that got stopped dead in his or her tracks when they realized how bad her new song is, I stopped in my tracks, well, not literally stop because well, I was driving, but it really hit me and I said to myself, “Oh my gosh. We are so blessed it’s ridiculous.”

American wealth and freedom is so abundant that we have multiple ways to access and listen to music, and that’s just on our phone. That is freedom. That is capitalism at work. That is technology advancing to the point that it’s become so easy to access something as simple as music that we don’t even realize how good we have it.

And not just music, but look at all the options at the grocery store or the thousands of TV channels.

Just stop and look around at all of the American abundance. All the options. All the freedom. We are so overly blessed in America, and it’s why I’ll always be grateful and say I am proud to be an American and rock on USA!

Anti-Christian Hollywood Produces Highly Offensive TV Scene of Jesus 8/28/17 -A Whittle Bit of Commentary

A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle

Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):

Hollywood once again proves how much they hate and disrespect Christians with the latest example coming from the AMC TV show Preacher that is produced by the vulgar minded and fake comedian Seth Rogen. If you know his career history, then you are probably not surprised that he would produce a TV show that contains a graphic sex scene of Jesus, that I’m not gonna describe because I love my Savior too much to even mention it.

Seth Rogen tweeted out a proud tweet over the controversy proud that he offended Christians and anyone that is decent and has respect for religion, which he obviously doesn’t. It’s a shame that Rogen and many in Hollywood are so Christianphobic. To be able to come up with a show with a message like this, you really have to have a perverted mind.

And America’s so called media “entertainment” if you can call this entertainment, will only grow more shocking and sickening as our culture goes further away from decency and Judeo- Christian values. We have seen nothing yet from Hollywood, they can and will go lower. I’m Chad Whittle on A Whittle Bit of Commentary.

ESPN Jumps the Political Correctness Shark and It's Gonna Be Their Downfall, Not Netflix 8/25/17 - A Whittle Bit of Commentary

A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle

Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):

ESPN has jumped the political correctness shark. I mean they have reached the bottom of absurdity and ridiculousness.

By now you’ve heard that ESPN decided to reassign Asian American football announcer Robert Lee and not let him announce an upcoming University of Virginia game in Charlottesville because they were worried that some in the audience would not be able to handle having an announcer do play-by-play with the same name of the confederate general Robert E. Lee, that has been dead for a long time and was white. They were worried that if he did the game that the social media trolls would meme and mock him, well that plan really worked out well! He’s been mocked and memed for the past 48 hours, had they let him do the game he would’ve only been memed for a couple of minutes in between all the other college football happenings.

Now if MSNBC and the other liberal media are mocking you for political correctness, then you know that you have reached peak absurdity. In an effort of trying to not offend anyone, they’ve ended up offending everybody and ESPN will never live this down.

I’ve said for years that ESPN is becoming another liberal network, but that evolution is now complete and they are alienating those within their audience that are conservative and those that are apolitical that have a crazy idea that a sports channel should just do sports and not politics.

Those in the media world continue to say that consumers cutting the cord from cable and Netflix and internet streaming will be ESPN’s downfall, and I disagree. ESPN can survive all that by keeping the rights to the NFL, NBA, and college football. Their downfall will be their obsession with political correctness. Money Honey: Good Credit Score Ranks Highest on Dating Survey Topping Attractiveness 8/24/17 - A Whittle Bit of Commentary

A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle

Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):

A survey from Discover Financial Services and Match Media Group, the owner of Tinder and other dating sites, shows that financial responsibility is a real crowd pleaser with 69% of the 2,000 people polled saying that it’s an extremely important quality for a potential mate to have, placing it ahead of someone having a sense of humor, with 67%, attractiveness with 51%, ambition 50%, courage 42%, and modesty comes in at 39% of people. Bloomberg that reported on the survey stated that a good credit score is associated with being responsible, trustworthy and smart.

For some of you, this is really great news, because well, let’s just say some of you guys haven’t been to the gym in a year or decade or so and walking to the buffet does not count as exercise. But hey, I understand that not everyone can have a good credit score, have a sense of humor, be highly attractive, ambitious, have courage and be modest. I guess what I’m trying to say is that not everyone can be Chad Whittle on A Whittle Bit of Commentary.

This One Thing Will Give Trump a Big League Victory in 2020 8/23/17 - A Whittle Bit of Commentary

A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle

Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):

According to the media, every week is Trump’s worst week as President and he is on the verge of impeachment, he is right on the edge of being taken out politically like Nixon. Well, the anti-Trump media can daydream all they want, because Trump is in office until at least 2020.

Today I wanna tell you the one thing that will make Trump an easy winner in the 2020 election and that’s the economy stupid! To quote James Carville.

I don’t care what nonsense Trump tweets, or what the media reports in their nonstop impeach Trump marathon of reporting, if by 2020, the economy is back and there is an obvious improving job market, people are not gonna care about all the side shows and Trump moments where Trump is being Trump.

After eight plus years of a declining job and economy, people are not gonna change midstream and go with a democrat, and I don’t care which one the democrats runs, it’s not gonna matter. They’re gonna lose to Trump and you throw in tax cuts too, if they can pull that off, and a big league victory for Trump. Not even gonna be close.

The Movie About the McDonald's Founder is a Testimony to America's Greatness 8/22/17 - A Whittle Bit of Commentary

A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle

Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):

If you’re hearing this, then it means you didn’t look at the eclipse yesterday and burned your retina and went blind because you were able to download this podcast. Ok, now that we got that out of the way, I wanna discuss a great movie I watched this weekend.

If you haven’t watched The Founder you should check it out. It stars Michael Keaton as Ray Kroc, a milkshake machine salesman from Illinois that meets the McDonald’s brothers that owns a hamburger restaurant in California. And yes, it is THE McDonald’s, the ones that have over a billion served. The odds are there is probably a McDonald’s near you right now as you are listening.

What I love about this movie is that it tells the story of an American businessman that is chasing the American Dream and the movie is positive about it. It doesn’t have any negative anti-American, anti-Capitalism messages in it. This movie shows the old America. How America used to be back when pursuing the American Dream and success wasn’t viewed as a negative or somehow robbing from others, and capitalism was praised, not condemned.  Men like Ray Kroc built America and we need more movies that tells their stories and offers others inspiration that they too can become a success in America and fulfill their dreams with hard work and the American work ethic.

I will admit Kroc sorta did the McDonald’s brothers wrong in the end, but that’s how business is. It’s a ruthless game, he wasn’t a perfect man, but overall this movie serves as an example of the pro-American, pro-family movies that Hollywood should be making as opposed to the unpatriotic negative movies that comes out of that place. It’s so ironic. Hollywood produces movies trashing America, trashing capitalism, and every single one of the people making these movies are stupid rich because of the American Capitalistic system.

Broke Millennials Are Financing Things They Can't Afford Nor Need to Go Deeper Into Debt 8/21/17 - A Whittle Bit of Commentary

A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle

Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):

Millennials that already have student loans they’ll never pay back have decided to go deeper in to debt by financing a lot of stuff they don’t need. Yep, my generation is making a lot of smart financial decisions. Not!

Marketwatch reports that millennials are taking out loans for everything from concert tickets to handbags, to expensive pots and pans, vacations, and bracelets that range from $5,000 to $6,000.

One company that is in the millennial financing business is Affirm that offers installment plans on items with rates ranging from zero to thirty percent APR. The average loan is eight hundred dollars.

I’m not sure my fellow millennials know this exist, but there is this thing called cash, that isn’t plastic and that offers no interest and if you use it, you won’t have to worry about paying back the loan that you probably cannot afford.

There is also this other thing called not buying stuff you don’t need. If you cannot afford a $5,000 bracelet, don’t buy it. Buy a cheaper one, or none at all.

Smartphone Separation Anxiety and Addiction: The Next American Crisis? 8/18/17 - A Whittle Bit of Commentary

A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle

Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):

Do you suffer from nomophobia? Also known as smartphone separation anxiety. Well, if you don’t, the odds are that someone you know does. The Scotsman, Scotland’s national newspaper, reports on new research that shows that some people that are separated from their smartphone for a long period of time has increased anxiety levels.

The researchers found that the main reason is because of the role phones play in our lives and our overall identity, they say the phone have become extensions of ourselves, with social media being a big part of this, because on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, we post our photos, comments with family and friends, and if you don’t have your phone with you, then you’re not able to post a selfie of what you’re having for lunch for example, and that can really make the anxiety kick in for some people.

They stated that this separation anxiety is likely to increase as technology advances, becomes more personal, and they’re encouraging people not to become too dependent on their phones, but it’s too late for that. Most already are, like an alcoholic or a junky that needs another hit, people need another Tweet, meme or Instagram photo or else it panic time.

We have already surrender so much of our lives to smartphones already. We do almost everything on them. From socializing to dating, we are dependent on our phones. The only solution is self-control, but not many people have that anymore, so don’t be surprised if one day you’re watching Dr. Phil and he sends someone to a smartphone addiction detox place to break their iPhone addiction. Is smartphone addiction the next great America crisis? I would argue it’s already a crisis for a lot of Americans.

A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle

Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):

How would you like to binge watch movies at your local theater for around the price of a monthly Netflix subscription? Well now you can according to Yahoo.

Mitch Lowe an early Netflix executive runs a company now called MoviePass that is dropping the price of their movie ticket subscription service to $9.95 per month and with this service you can watch one movie per day at any U.S. theater that accepts debit cards, excluding 3D or IMAX screens.

Before the price drop you had to fork out $30 or more per month for this service, so the question is is this price point sustainable enough to keep MoviePass in business? They’ve thought about that too so in order to try to stay in business long enough to make a profit they’ve sold some stakes in the company to some investors and are planning to eventually use all the data they receive from their subscribers on their viewing behavior and market promotional materials and ads to them, which is nothing new, that’s what Facebook, Google and the rest of the web does.

No doubt this is a good deal, but my question is are there enough movies per month worth watching to justify having this service? And of course the answer is no, because most movies are not worth watching for many reasons including that they’re not any good.

America's Moral Decadence Continues as Today's PG-13 Movies Would've Been Rated R a Decade Ago 8/16/17 - A Whittle Bit of Commentary

A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle

Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):

If you wanna know how far down the sewer our culture has gone, just go back and watch some PG-13 movies from the 1990s or early 2000s and compare them to today’s movies because you’re gonna be amazed at what counts as PG-13 material now would’ve been rated R years a decade or so ago.

I watched a Christopher Nolan movie this weekend called “Insomnia” which is one of his early films, and the movie stars Al Pacino and the late Robin Williams and it’s from 2002 and is rated R. I knew that even though this movie is rated R, that in today’s standards that means PG-13, plus I knew that Nolan isn’t the kind of director to have over the top sex and nudity in his movies like say, Game of Porn, I mean Game of Thrones on HBO.

And I was right. It contained your typical amount of adult language that seems like all movies have now, but if that movie came out in 2017 it would be rated PG-13. Same thing can be applied to TV. A basic cable show that is rated TV-14 today because of sex and language and violence would’ve been rated TV-MA in 2005. Of course this isn’t always true for every movie, some 1990 R rated movies would be rated R today, but now some PG movies probably should be rated PG-13.

All of this just serves as another example of the decadence of our pop culture and our society’s moral standards.

Some Christian Movies May Be Cheesy, but They're Important and Needed in Our Secular Culture 8/15/17 - A Whittle Bit of Commentary

A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle

Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):

Saturday morning I had breakfast with a buddy as usual our conversation went from sports to music to politics and finally religion. We both have a media background so we got to discussing Christian movies and TV shows. I mentioned a Christian show in particular and I said it looks to be sorta cheesy, like a lot of Christian media, but that I support the show because at least they’re trying to put out into the culture a show with a positive, Christian message.

So many times I believe some in the media and in the Christian culture as a whole are too quick to jump on the “cheesy Christian movie mocking” bandwagon and criticize Christian based movies because well, they’re not Christopher Nolan quality or even a low budgeted Hollywood production.

My view is that we should support these movies more because at least someone is trying to produce a movie with a positive message and promote that message within our secular culture and we should understand that the odds are also against those making these movies because a lot of times they have to fork out the money themselves to produce them, they don’t have the backing of a major Hollywood production company, and they probably are just starting out as filmmakers but at least they’re trying. And it’s better to have some poorly producer movies with a positive message than none at all in the pop culture because those movies still could make a positive difference in someone’s life.

I Rediscovered the Lost Art of Conversation This Weekend in Our iPhone Distracting World 8/14/17 - A Whittle Bit of Commentary

A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle

Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):

For a couple of minutes this weekend, I went back in time to the pre-smartphone world and oh, how I’ve forgotten how wonderful a world that was. No, I didn’t use a time machine, I did something much easier than that. I simply kept my phone in my pocket and had real, actual conversations with people! And it was so enjoyable.

While riding down the road, mostly because we were in a hurry, no one turned on the radio, so we didn’t have that as a distraction, and we just talked, like people did before iPhones invaded our lives, and I thought to myself, “Wow, this is really nice. No distractions, just talking.”

So, I decided to keep this up and see what happens, so the rest of the way, I kept my phone in my pocket and at dinner, I left my phone in the car so I would give people at the table my full undivided attention and guess what? It was great! People listening to each other without having their attention divided among them and a phone screen.

We are on our phones so much that we don’t believe we even realize how much during the day we are, but I’m gonna start putting the phone away more and have more interactions with people with thephone in my pocket and I challenge you to do the same and you might just learn that your life is a little less complicated and more enjoyable. And you may even make some better memories because you’ll actually remember what the conversation was about because your face wasn’t in your phone.
